For Manx, "brattagh" (pl.
"brattaghyn") is the
general term for flag: Yn/Y Vrattagh Ashoonagh = The
National Flag. (The Manx definite article "yn"
is often shortened to "y" before a word beginning
with a consonant. Ex. yn vrattagh = y vrattagh
"the flag"). Directly related to Irish
"bratach".
