About the flag

It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a background gyronny (meaning city rank) of green and white. The coat of arms is sable a bridge of seven arches argent issuant from a counterchief wavy of five fesses azure and argent bellow a closed castle of the same litten gules and masoned sable surrounded by a laurel wreath proper tied gules. Mural crown argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CIDADE | DE | MIRANDELA". Collar of the Order of Tower and Sword.

Presentation of Mirandela

Mirandela municipality had 25 809 inhabitants in 2000 (24 640 in 1990), and it is divided in 37 communes, covering 679 km2. It belongs to the Bragança District and to the old province of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.
