About the flag

It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a plain green background. The coat of arms is argent, a tree (cork oak?) proper (see bellow) between two fleurs de lis gules (but see bellow). Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE AZAMBUJA".

Azambuja municipality had 19 490 inhabitants in 1990, and it is divided in 9 communes, covering 262 km². It belongs to the Lisboa District and to the old province of Ribatejo.
