According to Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website, this is the old coat-of-arms, the one at the top is the present arms. When were the current arms (and flag) adopted remains uncertain. Since the sources used by António Martins to draw his images in March 2000 must predate that date, we can only say with certainty that the former Mellieħa arms must date from 1999 or older.
