Klanjec is a city in the Krapina-Zagorje County, about 4, 000
inhabitants, however the town of the same name, it capital,
numbers only about 600 inhabitants. It is some 30-ish km
north-west of Zagreb, about 10 km
west of Zabok, on border towards
Slovenia, on the Sutla river. As some other cities, Klanjec was
also first a community and was upgraded to a city in 1997.
The Coat of Arms is Gules a pair of antlers
issuant from a semi-wheel or. The coat of arms is inspired in the
Erdödy family coat of arms (cf. the inescutcheom in the Varazdin County coat of arms), who were
imprtant
feudal rulers in the region.
The flag is light blue with the coat of arms in the middle. Most
probably there exists also a ceremonial flag, but I have no info
on it.
The image of the coat of arms is based on the local tourist
magazine Turist plus, 06/2003. thanks to Tomislav ipek.
Probably the actual coat of arms should be a bit more elaborate,
but the soruce image was rather difficult to follow exactly in my
redrawing. The flag info is from Tomislav, based on his sighting
of the flag in Klanjec.

At <www.klanjec.hr>,
you may see a beautiful flag of the Klanjec firefirghter
volunteers society of 1937.
An even older flag was apparently burned down in 1964 during the
cleaning of old firefighter's house. The third flag was obtained
in 1957 - a gift from the community of Klanjec under auspices of
the reknown sculptor Antun Augustincic (who was born there). The
current, fourth flag was donated by the Boroak family in
1998, and is also to be seen on the mentioned site.
