About the Flag

The republic initially kept the green flag with the crescent and three stars of the kingdom but later replaced it with a red-white-black horizontal tricolour like today, but with a different style of eagle emblem in the white stripe, bearing a shield of the crescent and stars.
Roy Stilling, 5 October 1996

On 18 June 1953 the red, white, and black striped flag with the eagle bearing the crescent and three stars on the shield was adopted.
Ahmed S. Kamel, 8 August 2003
