Description of flag:
The flags ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over white over red horizontal
tricolour with the coat of arms in the centre of the flag. The flag may
be inofficial, i.e. not in the roll of arms, using simply the tricolour
of Schleswig-Holstein by adding the local coat of arms.

Niedersachsen und Schleswig-Holstein", Bremen 1970
Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. In the base in a red field is an image
of St.Martin sitting on a horse and dividing his coat while a beggar kneels
in front of him. The horse is facing the dexter side. The whole ensemble
is silver (=white) except the bridle and the beggars stick, which are golden
(=yellow). The base is bigger than the chief. The chief is divided per
pale.
In the dexter chief in a silver (=white) field is a blue gear with
four spokes and 20 teeth. In the sinister chief are five golden (=yellow)
ears of grain in a blue field.
Meaning:
The church of St.Martin existed since the 12th century. In 1907 the
village gained the title of a city and was also entitled to have its own
coat of arms. The coat of arms was based on proposals of emperor Wilhelm
II. itself. The other parts are symbolizing agriculture and industry. The
coat of arms was adopted on 8 November 1909.

Note: STADLER is dealing mainly with heraldry. His descriptions are
therefore always a little bit doubtful. My default option due to STADLER
is, that the coat of arms is in the centre. Otherwise STADLER would have
done a special remark. According to source the coat of arms hasn't changed
from 1909 until at least 1997. That means, in 1970 the flag must have looked
like this one.
