Department of Correctional Services (1994 - )

The flag of Department of Correctional Services is green with a gold horizontal stripe one-seventh of its width. The South African flag is in the canton, fimbrated on its fly end in white. The badge of the Service is located in the lower fly. The badge is composed of two gold keys, an open book and a gold wreath of Protea. The source for this information was SAVA Newsletter 15/96.

Your illustration of South Africa's Correctional Services flag correctly shows the new national flag in the upper hoist quarter. However, like most of the service flags, it was devised under the old regime, and originally had the 1927 flag in the canton.
Mike Oettle, 03 Feb 2002
