One county north of Seattle, here in Washington state, is Snohomish County. And Snohomish County is home to a group of people who have declared the secession of 'Freedom County' from the northern part of Snohomish County.

One of the local TV stations did a report last night on the founders of 'Freedom County,' and one of the men had the 'Freedom County' flag hanging on a wall behind him.

Clearly modeled on the Betsy Ross S&S, this was a standard U.S. flag, but with the stars in the canton replaced with the words FREEDOM and COUNTY in a circle, FREEDOM on the top of the arc and COUNTY below. The letters were arranged so they were parallel with the top and bottom of the flag.

Supporters of 'Freedom County' have attempted to get their new county recognized by the legislature, but to no avail. Snohomish County officials, needless to say, do not recognize this alleged jurisdiction either.
