The flag of the New York Genealogical And Biographical Society is described as:

"The flag of the Society displays the shield of the Society and consists of quartered elements, each representative of our origin or purpose." The upper hoist has the arms of the State of New York (representing the society's interest in NY from 1776 on); the upper fly has the arms of James, Duke of York (representing the same from 1664 to 1776); the lower hoist has the arms of the province of New Netherland (ditto, from 1609-1664); and the 3 open books in the lower fly represent the library and literary pursuits of the society.

The flag was adopted in 1969, and was designed by committee.
