New flag waves over the county

American and state flags have been flapping in the Nebraska wind at the new
Adams County Convention and Visitors Bureau office since it opened last June.
Thursday, for the first time, the Adams County flag joined them. The county's
first flag depicts a colorful sunset on a white background behind silhouettes of
farmland, an industrial plant and city buildings. A crowd of Hastings and county
officials and members of the public gathered at the visitor's center to be the
first to see it raised.
The Adams County Board of Supervisors approved the bureau's request for a flag in June. "We had considered a logo before," board member Sharon Stonecipher said at the ceremony. "When the request came, we decided it was time to design one." The flag's logo was selected to represent the primary characteristics of Adams County - agriculture, industry, the city of Hastings and villages, Stonecipher said. One flag will fly at the visitor's center. Another flag will be framed and hung in the courthouse.
The Adams County flag was designed by John Beyke of Beyke Signs in Hastings.
