Caldwell County

County minutes at http://www.co.caldwell.nc.us/comm/MAY062002.htm describe the flag:

"CALDWELLCOUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Lenoir, North Carolina May 6, 2002......

New County Flag

David Hill, Human Resources Director, appeared before the Board to present ideas for redesigning the County’s flag. He said that, during the 2000 NACo conference in Mecklenburg County, Caldwell County’s flag was the only one of all the counties on display that did not have its name referenced anywhere on the flag, making it impossible to know which county it represented. Mr. Hill said the County’s current flag was designed approximately 12 years ago during the County’s sesquicentennial celebration. He presented four flag designs for comment from the Board. In discussing the redesigning of the flag, citizens in attendance of the meeting were asked to vote on the four flags, narrowing the decision to between two designs. Mr. Hill said he would consult with companies for cost estimates, etc. and report back to the Board at a future date."

The current flag is combination of light blue-white-gold (or green?) and can be seen folded in photos at http://www.co.caldwell.nc.us/comm/comm1.html and http://www.co.caldwell.nc.us/greg/bwhite.jpg.

Our county flag contains seven alternating blue and white strips with a pine tree.

Currituck County

Currituck County's flag is the seal surrounded by stars on a blue field. Photos were found at http://www.co.currituck.nc.us/bocmembers.html (no longer available) and the seal was shown at http://www.co.currituck.nc.us/index_files/image004.gif (no longer available).

Dare County

Dare County's flag appears to have a white seal on light blue as seen at http://www.co.dare.nc.us/BOC/Images/Commissioners.jpg. The seal alone can be seen at http://www.co.dare.nc.us/Images/smsealblue.gif.

Davie County

It isn't clear what the flag looks like. The photos at http://www.co.davie.nc.us/Departments/Commissioners/department_home_commissioners.htm suggest that it is a blue-yellow (saltire? cross?) charged with county seal. The photo at http://www.co.davie.nc.us/_borders/Commissioners.jpg doesn't tell much more.

Granville County

I couldn't locate a flag for Granville County, but oddly enough, the county seal shows a strange red-white flag. The seal can be seen at http://www.granvillecounty.org/cseal10.gif and a better view on the photo at http://www.granvillecounty.org/dwatts.jpg.

Greene County

The Kinston Free Press reported a new flag for Greene County, North Carolina. According to the article:

The new flag is modeled after the colors used by the North Carolina militia and other patriots at the March 15, 1781 Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Americans were led at that battle by Gen. Nathaniel Greene, the man for whom Greene County eventually was named. Like the original one used in 1781, Greene County's flag has red and blue stripes. In its upper left corner is a large white field with 13 eight-pointed stars representing the 13 colonies. Some believe the banner used in 1781 was designed by North Carolinians after they learned by word of mouth about the national "Stars and Stripes" banner. The county's version features a blue outline of Greene County amid the stars. Within the county's outline is Greene County's official seal. On the flag's bottom stripe is "Since 1799," denoting the year Greene County was formed from the old Dobbs County.

Rowan County

I think the Rowan County flag is the county seal on a light blue. I base this on the following points:

An image of the county seal is shown at the county's home page http://www.co.rowan.nc.us/ but a larger image is available at the first link I posted above.
