Description of the flag

The image is based on the photo of the flag contained in the collection at the Massachusetts State House in Boston - blue with the town seal on the center. The seal contains the town coat of arms, which portrays the statue of Captain John Parker, captain of the Lexington minutemen who carried out the first armed resistance to British troops, beginning the American Revolution on 19 April 1776 on Lexington Green. The seal is inscribed with the quotation "What a glorious morning for America," referring to the day of the battle. The other inscriptions refer to the settlement of the area under the name of Cambridge Farms in 1642 and its chartering as Lexington in 1713.

The statue stands facing Boston--the direction from which the British marched--on the town green in Lexington, which is coincidentally one of those places that actually does have a Congressional statutory mandate to fly the U.S. flag 24 hours a day.
