In "The
Republican", 15 March 2007, David A. Vallette reports that the town flag of
Charlemont will fly soon in the Great Hall of Flags at
the Statehouse in Boston and elsewhere:
"Armed with a $1,000 donation and $4,700 approved at a special town meeting
Tuesday night, town officials will seek to have a flag designed, produced,
submitted to the state, and sold to residents. The flag will feature the coat of
arms of town namesake
Viscount Charlemont, said Finance Committee member William M. Coli, who
supported the flag quest on the floor of town meeting."
Charlemont is presented as follows on the
town website:
"The town of Charlemont is a hilltown community of about 1,300 residents located
along the Deerfield River and the scenic Mohawk Trail in northwestern
Massachusetts. Settled in 1744, Charlemont covers 26 square miles and is still
home to working farms and cottage industries as well as many recreational
opportunities from whitewater rafting to downhill skiing." There is a coat of
arms shown on the top of the pages of the municipal website, probably the one of
Viscount Charlemont.
