The mayor of Miami Beach has announced a competition for a new flag (click here to view the old flag) which must incorporate the city seal. All design entries must be on 8.5-inch-by-11-inch paper. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges. Flyers will be available starting Monday at City Hall; the deadline for submissions is March 7, winner to be announced March 19. One must be a resident of Miami beach to compete.

A photo appeared in today's Miami Herald that appears to show the new flag of
Miami Beach in use. From the little we can see it is green, at least in the
upper part. Alas, that's all I can say about it at this juncture. The rest of
the flag is not visible.

I had occasion to visit City Hall today and can elaborate. The old flag was
blue over yellow (sky over sand?) with the city seal kind of transparent
overall. The new flag is little different: apparently the sky is now green. I do
not have a photo just yet. The design is green over yellow. The seal remains
centered but is white, outlined in black. The palm tree is in green and the
lettering in orange.

I guess the yellow and blue represents sand and sky.
