Mike Morris reports in "The Union Democrat", 3 May 2007, that the decision
supervisors of Tuolumne county voted not to pay 2,000 USD to a professional
artist to design a county flag. Don Hukari would have had to propose at least
three flag designs.
Several years ago, California's Secretary of State required each of the 58
Californian counties to have a flag displayed in Sacramento; a large majority of
the counties have now a flag. At that time, the Tuolumne flag contest was
unsuccessful because the supervisors were unable to agree on a design, after
having narrowed down more than 90 entries to nine.
