Usually refered to as: Kungl. Vitterhetsakademien.

Founded in 1753 by Queen Lovisa Ulrika, the Academy is a forum for humanistic learning, initially with heavy emphasis on archaeology, inscriptions, coins, medals, and the preservation of national antiquities.

The flag of the Academy was designed by the National Heritage Board (Swedish: Riksantikvarieämbetet) in 2005 and presented to the Academy the same year. It is based on a slight modification of the seal of 1753.
