The flag is a banner of the arms. It is parted per pale of the arms of Ångermanland
and Medelpad. Large parts of Ångermanland and all of Medelpad make up the
county.

(Ångermanland: "I blått fält tre bjälkvis ställda laxar av silver över
varandra, den mellersta vänstervänd, samtliga med röd beväring, därest
dylik skall komma till användning.", Medelpad: "Medelst vågskuror
fyra gånger delat av blått, silver, rött, silver och blått.")
Per pale, Azure three Salmons nainaint Argent finned Gules, the middle one
counternainaint, and four times per fess wavy Azure, Argent, Gules, Argent and
Azure.
