Coat of Arms

[Rwanda Coat of Arms] image by Željko Heimer, 5 Jan 2002, after image on this webpage.

The Coat of Arms consists of a green ring with a knot tied at the upper end of the ring. On the top is the inscription ‘Repubulika Y’U Rwanda’ and below is the national motto ‘UBUMWE, UMURIMO, GUKUNDA IGIHUGU’ or ‘UNITY, WORK, PATRIOTISM.’ Other features of the Coat of Arms are the sun, sorghum and coffee, a basket, a cog wheel and two shields.
The green ring and knot symbolise industrial development through hard work. The shields symbolise patriotism, defence of national sovereignty and integrity and justice.
Info from this website.

One translates the motto: "ubumwe- umurimo- gukunda- igihugu" as "solidarity- work- home country- nation"

... and the two golden things are African shields visible from their sides? And what is the peculiar thing in the center of Coat of Arms, above the wheel?
Jan Zrzavy, 31 Dec 2001

The center of the Rwandan Coat of Arms shows a traditional basket that is a gift of friendship among the Rwandese. Often times they are given with successively smaller baskets inside one another, similar to Russian dolls. When given at a wedding, it is symbolic of family values and the promises kept within the house (note the lid on the basket).

The Coat of Arms has the vexillology rope knot at its base.  I know this is not in reference to our object of infatuation though, but it's nice seeing it there.

Aircraft Marking

[Rwanda roundel] image by Željko Heimer, 31 Dec 2002

Roundel of yellow-red-yellow-green in Album 2000.
This must be some later development, as Cochrane & Elliott' Military Aircraft Insignia of the World does not mention it, but gives simple red-yellow-green roundel, and "sometimes" national flag on the fin.
Željko Heimer, 31 Dec 2002

I guess that info is probably obsolete and new markings were adopted with new flag.
The "Force Aérienne Rwandaise" was formed in 1972 and operates 4-6 helicopters.
Dov Gutterman, 23 Jun 2004

Does anyone know Rwanda airforce aircraft marking has changed with the introduction of the new flag?
Do they  now use blue, yellow and green roundels ?
Nozomi Kariyasu, 13 Aug 2006

Can anyone confirm a new airforce roundel based on the new flag: : green, yellow and light blue with sunrays?
