Mari, a Finno-Ugric people. A
Mordovian ASSR was created in 1934.

Constitutional act No. 98/I about flag of Republic of Mordovia was accepted 30.3.1995 in Saransk:
Flag of republic has three horizontal stripes of brown-red, white and dark blue (1:2:1). In the centre is brown-red sun symbol. Proportions of flag being 1:2.Petr Exner, 30 Jan 1996

symbolizing the four Mordovian tribes.

Constitutional act No. 92-I about coat of arms of Republic of Mordovia was accepted 30.3.1995 in Saransk:

In the number 2/2001 of Alkukoti I found an interesting map chart
[alk01] with the living areas and flags
of the different Finno-Ugric peoples. It shows a simple white-red-black
triband for the Erza Mordvins (one of the two related Mordvin tribes; the
other one is Moksha).
