adopted 2 Mar 1978, design: Stichting Banistiek en Heraldiek
Sint Maarten had 2119 inhabitants in the settlements Sint Maarten (seat),
Eenigenbrug, Groenveld, Stroet, Rijp, Valkkoog.
Here remains were found of the "dwangburcht" (coercive castle?)
Nuwendoorn of Count Floris V of Holland (13th century). In 1478 Sint Maarten,
Eenigenbrug and Valkkoog formed one legal area, and remained virtually
unchanged till now.
The arms show St. Martin presenting a kind of ring or wreath to the
beggar.
The saint is still popular and 11 November is celebrated with gusto
every year.
