I seem to recall that Flaggenbuch 1939 shows all of these with the same line acting simultaneously as symmetry axis of both the crescent and the star.

  1. red with a white crescent and a white 5-pointed star;
  2. black;
  3. yellow with a red crescent and a red 5-pointed star;
  4. black.

Flaggenbuch 1939 shows the flag of the State Commissioner for Batu Pahat as a red-black per bend divided flag with a white crescent and a white 5-pointed star. Note the tilting of the star is different from the tilting of the 5-pointed stars in other Johore flags.
