Overview

Vodice is a small city in the Šibenik-Knin County on the coast some 10 km north of Šibenik. About 9,000 inhabitants, 5,000 in the city itself. In the last years it has become kind of a mondene spot of the tourism of the mid-Dalmatia. Until 1997 Vodice had status of a community.
The coat of arms of Vodice adopted before 1990's is blue bordered shield divided horizontally in yellow and light blue with a gray well bearing yellow shape of the church portal, above it a tower embattelemnts and in base a red bar above two white wavy lines. This coat of arms is apparently still used, but as far as I have ntocied there is no flag to go with it. probably the design did not pass thouh the Ministry of administration procedure, and I doubt that such as it is it would. I estimate that it was originally adopted in 1980's, and probably the original design included a red five-pointed star or some other emblem of the socialist society (probably instead of the church in the middle), however, I found no sources to confirm that.

Update with data from official gazettes:
- Odluka o pokretanju postupka za utvrdivanje grba i zastava Opcine Vodice, 8.12.1995, Službeni vjesnik Županije Šibenske, br. 9/95, 27.12.1995. - The decision constitutes a three-members commission to determine the community coat of arms and the flag, to issue an invited concourse and to establish jurry of experts to judge it and to present the decision towards assembly.
- Odluka o grbu i zastavi Opcine Vodice, 15.07.1996, Službeni vjesnik Županije Šibenske, br. 7/96, 12.08.1996. Odluka o uporabi grba i zastave Opcine Vodice, 15.07.1996, Službeni vjesnik Županije Šibenske, br. 7/96, 12.08.1996. - The decision adopts the coat of arms and the flag, coat of arms which possibly could be blazoned so (it is not described in herladic terms in the first place): per fess or and azure overall well walls argent ensigned with a chuch or, in chief an embattelment also argent and in base a bar gules above two barrulets wavy argent all within a border of ultramarine.
The symbolic of the elements is described: yellow field - olive oil, blue field - sea and water, well is a symbol fo water after which the place got its name, embatlements for the protection and history, red bar for wine. The church show is the Church of St. Cross of 1421. The flag is in ratio 1:2, ultramarine blue with the coat of arms in the middle. The size of the coat of arms is 2/3 of the flag width. The border of the coat of arms is not described, but it seems necessary to divide between the coat of arms border and the flag field. The second decision regulates their use.
- Odluka o odobrenju umnožavanja i prodaje reljefa grba Opcine kao suvenira, 04.10.1996, Službeni vjesnik Županije Šibenske, br. 10/96, 25.10.1996. - It determines grant for use and production of coat of arms relief as a souvenir to a citizen of Vodice.
- Statut Grada Vodica, 05.06.1997, Službeni vjesnik Šibensko-kninske županije, br. 6/97, 18.07.1997. - The community was rised to the city status in 1997 and the Statutes was amended for it, among other chenges the description of the coat of arms and the flag adopted in 1996 was included in the text.
On 23 July 2004, I stated that I think that the design precedes 1990's, but it seems that I was wrong about that. The coat of arms is still used today although I am not sure that it has been approved by the Ministry. Anway, the use of it is somehow shy, it is very hard to spot it anywhere in Vodice and I don't think that I have ever seen the flag there... and I have visited Vodice quite a few times in last years.
