The coat of arms is Argent a Cross Gules. Similar coat of arms
is held by several other cities in the area, and probably
originates from the crusade period. The flag uses unusual brown
colour for the field, which is not fully confirmed.

Buje (in Italian: Buie) is a small city in northwest corner of
inland Istria. It is probably most famous in modern time for the
electronic factory "Digitron" situated there.
Population totaling 5,500, with about 3,500 in the city itself.
Long ago (in 1996?) I reported the flag of Buje as well as the
coat of arms from some source that I have not noted, but it was
some weekly magazine or so having a photo therefrom. I noted that
the flag is brown with the coat of arms in it. However, Tomislav
ipek visited Buje recently and found out that the colour of
the flag field is not brown but rather dark red. The photo and
lightning effects may easily explain why I misjudged the colour.
The colour brown is, anyway, not among the allowed colours for
the flag according to the Croatian regulations (red, blue, green,
yellow and white are only allowed). Anyway, the flag hoisted at
the city hall in Buje is a vertical variant with golden border
all around and with the coat of arms off-set to top (similalry as
the flags of neighbouring Umag!).
