Overview

Erdut is a community in eastermost parts of the Osijek-Baranja County, some 30 km east of Osjiek. The community encompases area of the Dilj mountain, a low hill around which Danube (being its eastern border) makes a large round and where Drava flowes into it forming the north border of community. The four places in the community are also situated in the lowlands around the hill at the four cardila points: Erdut in East, Aljmaš in North, Dalj in South and Bijelo Brdo in West. Population 8,500 with just under 1,000 in the place of the same name. Erdut is the site of the signing of the so called Erdut Agreement on 12 November 1995 in which the peaceful reintegration of the Serb held Eastern Slavonia region was arrenged. In July 1991 all the Croatian population was exiled from the places under the pressure of Yugoslav Army and the region was held by rebel Serbs until the reintegration. After the Erdut Agreement, the refuugess gradually returned to their homes, the UN Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) was established as authority to perform the transition finished in January 1998. Community of Erdut still has slight majority of Serb population (almost 54% according to 2001 census) and also Hungarian minority (just above 5%). Therefore there beside the flag of Croatia and the community flags the flags of the two ethnic groups are also used in official capacity, like it is visible on a photo at <erdut.hr>.
The Coat of Arms of Erdut is: vert a fess argent from which protrudes a pall toward base and in chief a wine barell or. The barell represents the famous wine cellars of Erdut and the tau cross symbolizes the flow of the river Drava into Danube.
The flag is yellow with the coat of arms in the middle. Ratio 1:2. Adopted, I guess some time in 2005. The symbols look like they were designed by Heraldik art Rijeka.

I received from the community the text of the decisions and the image of the gonfalon: Odluka o grbu i zastavi opcine Erdut, 22.11.2001., Službeni glasnik opcine Erdut Odluka o uporabi grba, zastave i imena opcine Erdut, 21.05.2002., Službeni glasnik opcine Erdut
Therefore , adopted on 22 November 2001. The barrel not only represents vine industry in general but specifically a barrel of 75 000 liters of the Erdut celler famed to be the largest wine barrel in use in the world. The Ceremonial Flag is a yellow gonfalon with three tails triangularly ending with tassels and with the coat of arms in the middle. Above the coat of arms is in green letters inscribed the name of the community while below the coat of arms are the same inscriptions in Serb and Magyar languages that are official in the community. In the outer tails are ornaments of green vine branches with golden bunches of grapes and in the middle is an ornament of corn ears forming the wattle.
