Ozalj is a city in the Karlovac County, 10,000 inhabitants,
though only about 1,100 in the city itself. It is situated about
10 km north-west of Karlovac on the
Kupa river. The fort of Ozalj is known since at least the 12th
century and in the Middle Ages it was important fortification
owned by important families as Babonic's, Frakopan's and
Zrinski's. It was unofficial capital of Croatia as the Ban Petar
Zrinski was having his seat there. This is also the peak of the
Ozalj's history, as Petar Zrinski and Frank Krsto Frankopan tried
to get liberty for Croatia against the apsolustiom from Vienna
and were soon killed in the Wiener Neustadt in 1671. In the
modern time in Ozalj was built in 1908 a hydroelectric plant on
the last waterfall on the Kupa river. From 1992 until 1997 Ozalj
had the status of a community.
The coat of arms of Ozalj is shown on the website of Ozalj:
gules a tower or and in the cheif dexter a key argent in pale
wards down to dexter and in the chief sinister a sickle also
argent in pale blade to sinister.
The flag is also seen on the site on some photos, but always
quite covered. A better photo is at <www.novilist.hr>.
The flag is yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.

I received images and text from the civic authorities. The
symbols were adopted on 30 July 2002. Beside the coat of arms and
the flag, there is also a ceremonial flag. The ceremonial flag is
a yellow gonfalon with the coat of arms in the middle, green
inscription of the city name above and green vine ornaments with
light yellow bunches of grapes in the three rectangular tails.
