Lovinac is a community in the Lika and Senj County, about 30
km south- east of Gospic', just over
1,000 inhabitants, the main place of the same name numbering less
the 300. However, with the passage of the new highway built in
the first years of the third millenium with the tunel Sv. Rok
passing though Velebit mountains towards the sea, the community
received a new vigorous life. The commercial use of the natural
spring waters (also in the place Sveti Rok) gave an other
important push in the development of the region - and as we shall
see, gave also idea for the new symbols of the community.
The Coat of Arms shown on the community web site at issued in the
<www.lovinac.hr> is of
unknown status - as far as I am aware it was not yet official
gazette. (I expect it to appear in the county official gazette
available at <www.licko-senjska.hr>.
However, issued covering until June 2006 still have no word of
it).
The Coat of Arms seems to be in full accordance with the heraldic
principles for the local Coat of Arms used in practice in
Croatia, so I expect it to be adopted easily or it is in the
process that should not have any foreseeing problems. In any
case, the Coat of Arms is: vert a goute d'eau proper (heraldic
note: I added "proper" to blazon the white reflexion of
the drop, but the true heraldists would surely brow their eyes
about it - maybe a better blazon would simply be "vert a
drop of water azure reflecting argent").
The flag, for the time being unknown.

Coat of Arms and flag were designed by Heraldic Art d.o.o from
Rijeka and approved by the Ministry of Administration/Central
State Office for Administration before 2006.
