Vela Luka used a dove as its symbol for some time, so when it
came to choosing the arms it was a natural choice. The arms is
Azure bordered Argent a white dove flying with an olive branch Or
in the beak. The flag is blue with the coat of arms in the
middle.

At the web site of the
community, there is the Statutes
of the community of 11 October 2001. The artcile 4 includes the
description of the coat of arms and the flag: "The community
of Vela Luka has its historical coat of arms and flag. The coat
of arms of the community of Vela Luka is composed of a blue
coloured shield in the centre of which is set a dove coloured
white/silver with a yellow/golden olive branch in its beak. The
flag of the community of Vela Luka is composed of a blue field
with the coat of arms in the centre."
One should note that the description does not mention the white
border of the shield, so I draw the coat of arms without it - I
believe it should only be added on the flag and not used when the
coat of arms is used "solo" - although I guess there
are many examples of the coat of arms used with the border anyway
- e.g. the official
gazette that served me for the model for drawing the dove.
