The town of Ston is an old outpost of Dubrovnik at the
"mouth" of the Peljeac (Sabioncelo) peninsula and
most well known for the production of salt and in the newer times
also by the production of shells. The community consists of 18
settlements, with some 2,600 inhabitants, the twon of Ston
counting some 500 of them. The strategic importance of the town
made Dubrovnik to build in 14th century a large net of
fortifications walls that are still standing for the most part
and are the largest fortification system after the Great Wall of
China (or so they say) measuring 5.5 km.
The coat of arms and the flag is described in
the Statutes of 2001 but it does not contain the images. A small
image of the coat of arms is available at <www.croatiaexpo2005.hr>
and I have located a tourist leaflet showing the same coat of
arms monocoloured
The coat of arms is azure St. Blasius or with a right hand riased
and holding a staff in his left hand issuant from a fortress
argent and in base salt fields also argent. The flag is
yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.
