Overview

Orebic is a small town at the tip of the Pelješac peninsula (Pelješac is maybe also known to some for its Italian name Sabioncello). There are about 5,000 inhabitants, about the half of them living in the city itself. The inhabitants of Orebic were traditionally captains of some fame, serving on many large ships. The surrounding valleys are famous for very quality vines, probably the most well know being the red wine Dingac. The symbols in the coat of arms should therefore be quite logical choice. Gules a navigational instrument or and in the canton a bunch of grapes azure slipped of the second.
The coat of arms was being shown for a long time on Hotelsko-turisticko poduzece Orebic - Opcina Orebic <www.orebic-htp.hr> (1 July 2002) though recently the site was revamped, not including it any more...
I have no info on the flag as yet.

It is most probably a sextant (from classical Latin 'sextans', sixth, after 'sex', six), an instrument made of an articulate, circulary
sector measuring one sixth of a circle, a lens and a mirror. By allowing the measure of the angle between a star and the horizon line, the sextant allows to take a bearing. A similar instrument with a sector measuring one eigth of a circle was called an octant.

The instrument in question is a sextant, although it's possible but unlikely that it's an octant. The former's arc is one-sixth of a circle; the latter's one-eighth. Informally, they're all called "sextant". They aid navigation by triangulation via the horizon and a heavenly body. The gizmo that hangs down remains steady while the ship pitches and rolls...

I got an answer from the webmaster of the site above. The flag and the coat of arms are not adopted yet. The coat of arms showed is not official, the community just haven't come to adopting that decision yet. And it seems it is not in hurry to do so, expecting new elections these days and haning other things in mind.

In the mean time I have received from the webmaster of the Orebic site (who also edits the local official gazette), Donko Bakalic, the drawing of the flag, that looks very much like the one from the Heraldik-art d.o.o. workshop. Donko is yet not aware of the decision of the local council regaridng the adoption of the symbiols, but, probably these are in the process. I guess that the Ministry would have little objections to these as they are now, so it is probably just the matter of time.
The flag is light blue with the coat of arms in the middle (without the otherwise usual golden border). The part of the branch on which the bunch of grapes is hanging is coloured "proper" (brown, in this case).
