Opuzen is a city half way between the point where Neretva
flows into Croatia and its delta (i.e. between Metkovic and
Ploce). There are about 3,600 inhabitants, some 2,800 in the city
itself. The community was given city status in 1997. These
symbols must have been adopted around the same time.
The coat of arms of Opuzen is argent a tower gules issuant from a
boat azure. The boat here is an other appearance of the
traditional boats and ships from Neretva river seen in several
other coats of arms of the Neretva valley.
The flag is blue with the coat of arms in the middle.

The web site of the city
contains the Statutes
of the city dopted on 12 October 2001, replacing the previous
Statutes of 28 July 1997 (issued in Neretvanski glasnik 2/97).
The Article 4 describes the coat of arms and the flag: "The
coat of arms of the City of Opuzen is the historical coat of arms
of the City of Opuzen. The coat of arms of the City of Opuzen is
semicircular shield argent. In the centre of it is a tower with
cranelations and with seven (4+3) windows, gules. In the base of
the tower is stylized "trupica" of Neretva azure. The
coat of arms of the City of Opuzen is stylized version of the
historical coat of arms of the City from the balcony of the City
Hall.
The flag of the City of Opuzen is blue. The ratio is 1:2. In the
centre of the flag is set the coat of arms of the City of Opuzen
as described above."
Trupica is the name of a traditional boat used in the Neretva
Delta (which is also shown in somewhat different stylization in
the coat of arms of the County).
