Podturen is a community in the Medimurje County with some
4,500 inhabitants, about 1,700 in the town of the same name, its
center. It is some 15 km north-east of Cakovec,
approximately at the point where borders of three states
(Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary) meet.
The symbols were adopted on 18 December 2004 (see: Previous
Symbols). It was actually adopted a document named
"Zakljucak o odabiru likovnog rjeenja zastave i grba
Opcine Podturen" (Conclusion on selection of the design of
the flag and the coat of arms of the Community of Podturen) by
the Community Assembly, after a public concourse issed among
other flaces at : <forum.opcina-podturen.h>.

The design had yet to be confirmed by the Ministry of
Administration. The "hot news" near the article
mentioned above (unfortunately undated) explains that the design
was declined by the Ministry since the change of mill wheels is
already present on "600 coats of arms of the local
selfgoverment units". (Well, I don't know which 600 they
counted, obviously not only in Croatia, but whever...), so, we
should expect an other design herefrom, soon...
The coat of arms of Podturen is: vert a mill wheel or and in the
base wavy azure two barrulets wavy argent.
The flag is blue with the yellow bordered coat of arms in the
middle.
The author of the design is Danijel Hampamer. The second awarded
design was made by Miljenko Hajdarovic and it is much more
"heraldic": gules a heron rising sable. Have a look at
the ceremonial flag at his site at <www.webdomene.info>.

However, the design adopted in 2004 was not approved by the
cnetral state authorities, alledgedly due to the similarity with
other coat of arms (as I was informed by Miljenko Hajdarovic, the
second awarded in the original contents). Apparently, the
community continued to evolve the design, and recently adopted a
slightly changed design that was approved by the central
authorities - it seems, between 6 May and 5 June 2007. The latter
date is the community holyday, when the design was officially
promoted.
The coat of arms of Podturen is now: argent a mill wheel proper
and in the base two barrulets wavy vert. The flag is yellow with
the coat of arms in the middle. The wavy lines represent the Mura
River that forms the northern border of the community while the
wheel represents the main industry on which the community was
developed.
