Veniamis, still the Chairman and Managing Director of the company.
With the great cement demand by the Middle East and West Africa, the
company pioneered in the transportation of cement in bulk, purchasing a
number of bulk carriers and converting them into cement carriers and
developing its own expertise in the pneumatic conveying of cement.
Later on, the company started to orient itself out of the traditional
cargo ships, renewing its fleet with larger units. Acquiring a good
number of panamaxes, the company performed successfully a number of
contracts for large trading houses. Presently the company is oriented
to larger cape and panamax dry bulk carriers, achieving a dominant
position in dry cargo operators.
Golden Union today manages a fleet of 28 bulk carriers of a total
deadweight in excess of 2 million tons.
