History of Compagnie Franco-Tunisienne de Navigation

The Compagnie Franco-Tunisienne de Navigation was founded in 1896. The company bought five second-hand ships between 1896 and 1904, all named after Tunisian cities (SS Ville-de-Bizerte, Ville-de-Sfax, Ville-de-Sousse, Ville-de-Nemours, Ville-de-Gabès).
The company operated a cargo-passenger line to Tunisia, with sheep as the most common return freight. The company could not withstand the competition of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and was sold off in 1907.
