[Etampes archery flag]

Flag of Compagnie des Archers d'Etampes - Image by Ivan Sache, 22 December 2002

Etampes is a town located in the south of Paris. The flag of its Archery Brotherhood is a vertical, swallow-tailed banner. The main field is white. The emblem is a sun, whose design was inspired by representations of the sun in the XVIIth century. The sun was then the emblem of arquebusiers. The name of the town is placed above the emblem. Below the emblem are placed two dates:

  • 1179, for the oldest evidence of archery found in the municipal archives of Etampes
  • 1979, for the reestablishment of the Company.

The emblem, town name and dates, as well as the borders of the flag seems to be embroidered in gold.
