The department is named after the Vosges mountains.

Description of the flag

The flag of the department of Vosges is a banner of the arms of the department, which were adopted in 1946. The proportion of the flag is 2:3.
The flag is flying on the building of the General Council in Epinal.

The firs symbolize the rich forests of firs of the department. White symbolises the snow that appears in winter on the Vosges mountains, which gave their name to the department. The top of the flag is the banner of the arms of Lorraine, to recall that the department of Vosges is historically a part of Lorraine.
