Football Club de Lorient

[FC Lorient]by Ivan Sache

The supporters of the Football Club de Lorient have designed their own version of the Breton Gwen-ha-Du. The designers of the flag have simply used orange instead of white. Orange and black are the colours of the football club. Lorient currently plays in the Second League. The supporters of Lorient are known for their fair play and friendly behaviour with visiting supporters. When Lorient played for the first time in the First League, the supporters hung in the Stadium a big banderole saying "Honour to our visitors, Welcome to their supporters." The nickname of the team is les Merlus (Hakes), as a reference to the fishing port. The club plays in the Moustoir Stadium, which is also hosting the InterCeltic Festival and the final of the Bagad (traditional Breton band) national championships.

This flag was seen during the match Lorient-Toulouse (EuroSport France, 11 August 2002).

Similar flags combining the Breton design and the club colours were designed by supporters of Guingamp, Nantes, and Rennes.
