Introduction

"Despotism," was an educational film from 1946 a quicktime version of which can be seen here.

The film was intended to teach schoolchildren the distingushing characteristics of democratic and undemocratic societies, and still seems quite topical.

Unnamed Country

Reconstruction based on a black & white image by António Martins-Tuválkin, 12 December 2005

The flag of an hypothetical undemocratic society appears in a polling place as can be seen by this screengrab. It is white, with a light-colored ring and a black symbol resembling an (unequal) character.
Eugene Ipave, 21 october 2005

Note that the design white red-bordered disc with something black on it means, as an european traffic sign, that the "something" is forbbiden (honking, parking, turning, speeding etc.), but this symbolism must have been overlooked by the filmmakers, who wanted a nazi look-alike but vague enough.
