Introduction

In 1977 the struggle for autonomy and the discussion about symbols started again. The conservatives preferred designs with a [red] cross, and several were published by the newspaper Heraldo de Aragón:

  1. white with S. George Cross, with four moors [similar to the Sardinian flag]
  2. blue with white Iñigo Arista cross in canton (the [formy fitchy] cross shown in the arms) [the arms of Aragon ancient]
  3. a banner-of-arms [of the greater arms?]
  4. [a red cross with the greater arms of Aragon in the centre]
  5. [a red cross with the arms of Aragon ancient and modern in the second and third quarters]
  6. [a red cross with banners-of-arms of Aragon ancient and modern in the second and third quarters]
