Description

According to the Manual del Estado Español (Handbook of the Spanish State, Spanish text only) by Editorial Lama:

historical flag [meaning there is no known adoption date], "Sobre fondo blanco y una bordura de color azul, cuyo ancho equivale a una quinta parte de la altura de la bandera, el escudo provincial en su zona interior" i.e. white flag with a blue border, whose width equals one fifth of the height of the flag, with the provincial coat-of-arms in the center;
historical coat-of-arms [meaning there is no known adoption date]:
Ciudad y castillo de Gibralfaro, situado con las torres hacia la derecha, con el corral de los Cautivos en un campo colorado, los presos y cautivos sombrados de blanco y negro, y un par de las torres de Gibralfaro con las imágenes de los Santos Bienaventurados Mártires San Ciriaco y Santa Paula con resplandores de oro, manto azul y túnica dorada y el sobrecuello de Santa Paula dorado. A la izquierda doce bandas alternadas de rojo y amarillo. Al pie las ondas del mar plateadas en campo azul. Orladura con el yugo y las flechas dorados en campo verde la mitad y la otra mitad morado. Rematado el escudo con corona ducal.

The flag appears to combine the field of the Maritime Province flag with a coat-of-arms similar (but with more elements) to that in the flag of Málaga City.
