Description of flag :
The flag has the colours of the civil flag of Schleswig-Holstein, but there is a white canton with an ancient shield, showing the coat of arms of the city of Kiel. The shield is surrounded by black inscriptions "E" over "R" (hoist), "K" over "C" (fly) and "1862" (below).
