Description

A vertical flag, divided yellow-green. Adopted 08.03.1989, according to Dirk Schönberger's Administrative Divisions of the World website. Arms and flag information from this website.

Stefan Schwoon, 8 February 2001

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The new arms were granted on December 11, 1973.

The staff is taken from the old arms of the Säckingen district (symbol of St. Fridolin, who founded the abbey and village of Säckingen in the 6th century) and symbolises the many monasteries and abbeys in the district. The green colour is the symbol for the woods.

The silver bend symbolises the Rhein river and its importance for the local economy.

The lower part shows a wheel as a symbol for the hydro-electric power in the district. The wheel was also taken from the old arms of the district.

Literature: Stadler 1964-1971, Linder and Olzog 1996.
