Overview

I have just received from the Government of Cundinamarca a book that deals with on the shields and flags of this department. This book is called "Shields, Flags and Hymns of Cundinamarca", written by Rosalba Salazar Gallo for the Secretariat of Culture of Cundinamarca. Here is the flag of Cogua (Sabana Centro (=Central Sabana) Province). The flag of Cogua have an object in the white triangle. It is a tree of Rodamonte.
Jairo Alonso Méndez Méndez, 12 March 2004

Descriptions of Flag and Coat of Arms are located in <www.alcaldiacogua.gov.co>. Both texts in Spanish:

The flag was adopted by decree 045 from 22nd Augost, 1997, and described as: The dimentions: 100 cm width and 150 cm long (ratio 2:3), vertically divided at half blue over green, a white triangle in the hoist reches the division between blue and green at 1/3 the length.  In the triangle is the siluet of a rodamonte tree. (The site says two 45º angles and one 30º, I guess they meant one 90º angle instead of 30º)   The rodamonte tree is the municipality tree of Cogua; blue stands for the hidrical resources (there is a lagoon of the same name), green stands for forestal wealth, and white means peace, in a shape of a triangle that means justice.
The Coat of Arms of the municipality was adopted by decree 052 from 23rd Augost, 2000.   Acording to the site the shield represents the most outstanding elements of the municipality of Cogua in the department of Cundinamarca, in Colombia.  They appear as emblems the main farming activities as they are: cattling, agriculture, ecological tourism, forest reserves, among others.
There is a picture of the main square of Cogua with a rodamonte (Escallonia myrtilloides) at  <www.alcaldiacogua.gov.co>.
