Founded in 1949, Harrison sits on the southern tip of Harrison Lake, at the site of a Sulfur-rich hot springs. Its main industry is tourism, originally Vancouverites visiting or owning vacation property, but now attracting foreign tourists to events like the World Sand Castle Championships. The area also advertises itself as "Sasquatch Country" after the legendary Bigfoot said to live in the mountains.

The city seal shows a sailboat on the lake with the sun above and the mountains on both sides. The full seal bears the title "Corporation of the Village of Harrison Hot Springs", but the version on the flag says "Harrison Hot Springs" / " B.C."; the seal on a white flag is the Village flag..
