About the Flag of Jundiaí

According to the municipal website, the flag is white, red, light blue, and light green. The green field recalls the old "Mato Grosso [big forest] de Jundiaí”, and at the same time symbolizes the viticulture of the municipality. The cogwheel is the symbol of her industrial park and the bastion in the center evokes Jundiaí as the "Gateway to the Sertão [the arid hinterlands]," as well as the name of her patron saint, Our Lady of the Deportation [Desterro]. The description of the coat of arms defines the light blue stripe as representing the Jundiaí River, while the red and white of the wheel and fortress, in combination with the green field, are the colors of the Italian flag, as a "homage to the [Italian] colony that grew along with the city. The date 1655 is when the settlement of Jundiaí became a town.
